APO WHANG-OD
Hailed as the Oldest Mambabatok of her generation, Apo Whong-Od marks herself as the living legend for Kalinga Hand-top tattooing.
Her three-dotted tattoo is her iconic design. Using charcoal and water as the ink and thorn from a Citrus tree for tapping on the skin. Apo as your artist can be painful due to her age but the passing of this tradition lives on with her grandniece and the people of Buscalan as her successor.
Honored to capture her art, style, and passion through photography. Her tattooing technique has gained worldwide recognition, being showcased in local news, television, and magazines such as Vogue.
