MASSKARA FESTIVAL
The MassKara Festival is an annual festival held in Bacolod City, Philippines, every October, known for its vibrant, colorful, and joyous atmosphere.
The name “MassKara” combines “mass,” meaning “many people,” and “kara,” a Spanish word for “face,” symbolizing the smiling faces that represent the festival. Born during a challenging period in Bacolod’s history, it was conceived as a way to uplift spirits and promote positivity despite hardship.

The highlight of the MassKara Festival is the street dancing competition, where dancers in elaborate, smiling masks, colorful costumes, and headdresses perform lively routines. The masks symbolize the resilient spirit of Bacolodnons, and the festival is a celebration of Bacolod as the “City of Smiles.”

Beyond the street dance, the festival includes concerts, beauty pageants, food fairs, art exhibits, and various contests, turning the entire city into a massive celebration.
